Quick-change watchmaker's screwdriver set in its open case, handle and 1.0 to 1.8 mm tips

Quick-Change Watchmaker's Screwdriver Set: One Handle, Four Blades

Hong Kong has no shortage of collectors who like to look after their own watches: opening a caseback, tightening a bridge screw, adjusting a Rolex or Omega bracelet before a dinner in Central. For all of this, you keep switching between screwdriver sizes. MisterChrono Hong Kong now carries a quick-change watchmaker's screwdriver set: one handle and four flat blades from 1.0 to 1.8 mm, priced at HK$580.

Quick-change watchmaker's screwdriver set in its open case, handle and 1.0 to 1.8 mm tips

One handle, four blades

The idea is simple: the handle takes quick-change tips, each fitted with a flat blade held by a small grub screw. Pull one tip out, click the next one in, and you go from 1.0 to 1.8 mm without changing tools or hunting for the right screwdriver in a stand. The knurled body gives a secure grip for fine work, and the whole set fits in a case the size of a glasses case.

What's in the box

  • 1 quick-change handle with knurled grip
  • 4 flat-blade tips: 1.0, 1.2, 1.4 and 1.8 mm
  • 4 spare blades in the same sizes, kept in their storage tube
  • 1 screwdriver (1.6 mm) for tightening the grub screws that hold the blades in the tips
  • 1 clear storage case with foam insert

Contents of the set: knurled handle, 1.2, 1.4 and 1.8 mm tips, spare blades and 1.6 mm screwdriver

Ideal for Rolex and Omega bracelets

The set is particularly well suited to Rolex and Omega bracelet screws: to remove or add a link, simply pick the tip whose blade fills the screw slot, without changing handles. Handy for fitting a bracelet to your wrist at home, or for a quick adjustment after a long day in the heat, when wrists swell a little.

MisterChrono is independent of Rolex and Omega: this tool is not made or endorsed by either brand.

Choosing the right blade

The watchmaker's rule: the blade should fill the full width of the slot without overhanging it. Too narrow and it bears on a small area, slips and marks the screw head; too wide and it scratches the plate or bridge around it. The finer sizes are for the small screws of the movement, the wider ones for bridge and rotor screws. The precision-ground blades sit snugly in the slot, which reduces the risk of slipping.

Storing it in Hong Kong's humidity

Steel blades do not like damp air. Put the tips back in their foam slots after use and keep the case closed, ideally with a small silica gel sachet inside during the humid months. A blunt or chipped blade damages screw slots: the set includes one spare blade per size, so replace it as soon as the tip starts to round off, loosening the grub screw that holds it in the tip with the 1.6 mm screwdriver supplied.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use it to adjust a metal bracelet?

Yes. It is particularly well suited to Rolex and Omega bracelet screws, and works for any link held by single-slot screws, as long as you pick the blade that matches the slot. For links with screws slotted at both ends, our bracelet tools are better suited, and for Richard Mille screws, see our set of 10 Richard Mille screwdrivers.

Are the blades replaceable?

Yes. Four spare blades, one per size, come in the case.

Is it for beginners or professionals?

Both. The compact format suits the collector who services their own watches as well as the watchmaker who wants a set of flat blades always within reach.
